Do you know what is: Hand, Foot and Mouth?

photo_2020-02-18_21-36-34 (4)

On Monday, I was informed by daycare that Arya was irritable. I assumed it was just because “it’ was Monday.” Later at night I went to take off her shoes and I noticed her sole of her feet had a rash. I immediately thought, it had to be the bleach from the shoes that I just washed over the weekend. It must’ve had residue and my poor girl got irritated.

Backstory: Arya has very sensitive skin. If she gets hot, she will break into hives.  I assumed it was just that.

In the early morning, as we were sleep, I felt Arya’s body on fire. Yes, I still co-sleep. Like, her whole body was hot. Afraid that she would get a heat rash, I uncovered her and fell back to sleep. When we woke up, I made sure she didn’t have a body rash. She didn’t so off to daycare we went. At night, Arya was complaining about her mouth. I brushed it off assuming she may have bit herself as she was at that moment eating a snack.

photo_2020-02-18_21-36-34

But what caught my attention was when she was washing her hands. At the sink, I noticed her elbows. It had blisters, which I never seen her have. I checked the other elbow and she also had it. Immediately, I thought “OMG, NO! She can’t have what I think.” When I opened her mouth, it bothered her and I discovered that she had blisters inside. I then knew right there, she may have hand, foot and mouth. What to do now?

photo_2020-02-18_21-36-33

I called Rob over to the bathroom, so he can see for himself. He decided to do a virtual visit via United Healthcare. The wait was less than 10 minutes. They asked for Arya’s temperature, which was normal and a couple of pictures of the rash. I would say the visit was like Skype/Facetime. She asked for more pictures. Then the video call crashed, it went down as soon as we were getting the results. Just my luck, huh?

She called me instead right away to tell me the results. She confirmed what I already knew, you know mother’s instinct. Arya had hand, foot and mouth. I asked her, “Ok, what medication does she need? What can we do?”  You wouldn’t believe the response.

She uttered the word, “Nothing.” I couldn’t believe it. “There’s no medication, shot or cure.” As parents we strive to help our child when their sick. We feel their pain and we always want it to go away. How can something like this not have a cure? I was left wondering what if?

As my mind went to other scenarios, “What if its Allergies and the virtual visit was wrong?” “What if it’s something worse?” I had enough; the answer didn’t sit well with me, so I had to get a second opinion. I made an appointment to Pediatric Associates. I wasn’t able to find an appointment with her primary physician but during this time Averie was also sick and I found one doctor that had back to back appointment time. Yes!

photo_2020-02-18_21-36-34 (5)

We were attended quickly; Averie had a cough/common cold. But when the doctor saw Arya, who I must say resembles Dr. Pimple Popper. She confirmed from just looking at her, that she had hand, foot and mouth disease. In her words, “without a doubt she has it, nothing to cure it. Just comfort Arya with lots of nice cold ice cream, soft foods and Tylenol. But I must warn you, some parents don’t know this. When the rash subsides, her fingernails may fall off. All the way.”

My mouth dropped!

I just couldn’t believe it. The doctor recommended that Arya not attend daycare for a week or until the rash goes away and for Averie to be away from Arya as it can be contagious. I also asked, if adults could get it and I was informed it wasn’t as severe as the children but that every body reacts different. You know I went full blown cleaning mode as I got home and began to wash and disinfect everything.

As a mom, I needed to know where she got hand, foot and mouth. What I am most happy about is that Arya wasn’t as severe as the images I viewed on Google. Thank God. But for my sanity, I still ended up asking the daycare if there were other children with it and to my surprise there were. I was informed that deep cleaning was to be conducted over the long weekend.

I share this story to bring awareness to this disease. I would like others to know what is, educate and if possible how to cure it, in case it may happen to your own children. In this scenario, as crazy it sounds there is no cure. But do read about it because you never know when it can happen to you.

The 2020 Grammy Awards

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys in Atelier Versace – Dang, her body in this dress reminds me of a Italian statue. Wow, so beautiful. This one shoulder column dress had a high slit thigh action. I love how the silver/metal mesh looked on the stage and the detail on that shoulder was hand embroidered with large Swarovski crystals. It was divine for her entrance. She had 5 outfits for the night, including this one. Overall, this dress was my favorite one of them all. Did you know this dress took almost 600 hours to complete?

GWEN

Gwen Stefani in Dolce & Gabbana – Guys, she is in love! She took her boyfriend’s last name Shelton, literal. As to wear a strapless SHELL encrusted bell mini dress. This is too cute! Now that I know the little joke between them lets be serious now for one fashion minute. Doesn’t she look stunning? She wore it perfectly with the over the knee boots and that’s taking a risk. You may ask why? Seriously, not everyone can pull this look off. But she sure did and can I get a YEEHAW!

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello in Atelier Versace – This was a custom blush pink bustier dress. It had beautiful detail work with the embroidered pearls that were shown on her neck, chest, waist and the wrist. There were Swarovski crystals decorated translucently within the dress. I loved the silk chiffon chemisier that was layered over, it was perfect. Now the performance, the song she sang was “First Man” it brought tears to my eyes. The way  she sang to her father that was at the front row was felt through all my bones. It was beautifully written and all my emotions were everywhere. You must hear it if you haven’t yet.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato in Christian Siriano – One word, breathtaking. Welcome back. She looks angelic in this white sparkle sequins gown. I could not look a way because it was well tailored. It had blazer like elements on the bodice but kept it her style with a diamond encrusted corset. We are listening Demi and you have our attention.

ARIANA GRANDE

Ariana Grande in Givenchy Haute Couture – I adore this strapless emerald ball gown on her. The over sized earrings and the matching colored gloves made the outfit come to life. It reminded me of vintage 1960’s style. I love that she kept her high ombre blonde pony tail and her makeup neutral which was the best choice. This was the last look of her night because she had a total of 5 changes.

Danielle Jonas

Danielle Jonas in J’Aton Couture – Can I please get this dress in my closet? How stunning is this grey embellished – floor length strapless gown? The thigh high slit was the perfect detail on the classic look.

JANINA GAVANKAR

Janina Gavankar in Romona Keveza – She wore a red dress to the red carpet and it was amazing. She reminds me of a bond girl, if she hasn’t played one she should. This one sleeve  red chiffon gown dress was effortlessly elegant. I like how it had an asymmetrical design and the detail of a wrap style is what caught my attention because it included a knee high slit. My eyes were drawn from left to right and all around.

Lizzo

Lizzo in White Atelier Versace with Lorraine Schwartz Necklace. Then changed to Christian Siriano for a performance of “Cuz I Love You” .

When she walked the red carpet in the white Atelier Versace my mouth dropped. She look stunning in this floor length embellished gown. I liked that I saw her in this old Hollywood glamour style. Yes, darling! The sweetheart neckline was adorn in Lorraine Schwartz necklaces. The knee high slit and the faux fur shawl were great detail for the overall look.

Onto the other outfit change, when she came out in the black embellished off the shoulder ball gown of Christian Siriano; I couldn’t contain my “YOU GO GIRL!” She looked flawless. I loved that the gown was adorn in crystals, so when the light hit her it shimmered through the TV, it was beautiful and the orchestra playing in the background it looked like a painting. It was breath taking.

SAWEETIE

Saweetie in Moschino – SEXY, SEXY AND DID I SAY SEXY?! Off the run way, this asymmetrical metallic dress hugged all the right curves.

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2020

The 26th SAG Awards aired on January 19, 2020. Here are my nominations of Best Dressed of the ceremony.

ZOEY

ZOEY KRAVTIZ- in Oscar de la Renta with Tiffany Co. Jewelry. This outfit reminds me of Jackie Kennedy, she wore a similar peachy dress back in the day. Yet the style and pose remind me of Audrey Hepburn. This is a different style from what I normally see Zoe wear in award shows and I am LOVING IT, hoping it remains! The petite bow at the waistline is charming and the gloves reminds me of her character in Little Big Lies. I like how the entire outfit evoked old school glamour.

JENNIFER

Jennifer Lopez- in Georges Hobeika with Harry Winston jewelry. WOW is an understatement. She wore this black satin off the shoulder column gown. When she turned around there was a floor length bow train to make a statement. To complete the look she wore a diamond necklace, drop earrings and a diamond bracelet. Guess how much is it all worth? 9 million dollars! Let me take a breath on that one. *sigh*  She rocked it out!

SCARLETT

Scarlett Johansson- in Armani Prive. My oh, My! How radiant did she look?! This emerald gown at a glance looks like it was strapless but quiet the contrary, turn around it had diamond straps.  I admit, when I first saw her from the back I said to myself, “What! She has tattoos?” I went to Google to zoom in another picture and to my surprise she does. She has roses and a lamb on her back. But back to this stunning ensemble, the plunging v-neck is always stunning on her and she paired it well with a bright red lip for a pop of color and did an sleek back up do.

JOEY

Joey King- in Jason Wu with Akillis Jewelry. I like this edgy lingerie look on Joey. I like that the dress left little to the imagination with sheer lining. It felt sultry yet elegant for the awards. The structured bodice hugged her body beautifully. I noticed that there were crystals/diamonds that covered translucency all over and it was divine. The wet hairstyle slick back (which I am noticing as a trend) showed off the dangled earrings.

REESE

Reese Witherspoon- in Celine and Harry Winston Jewelry. Can I say, Sleek and snatched. To my fellow Legally Blonde fans, you know I was talking about the famous quote, “Bend and Snatch” But for this look Reese, wore a column dress with a high slit that showcased leg action. I like that the strapless black satin dress had sequin embellishments all over. One detailed that was AH-MAZING (as Rachel Zoe would say) is that one crossover belt shoulder. Overall, this to me feels like a new look for her and its refreshing.

JENNIFER G

Jennifer Garner- in Dolce & Gabbana with Harry Winston Jewelry. I always view Jennifer Garner as the character in 13 going to 30, her aurora is beautiful. Like, this is a mom I would like to be friends with. I like that she went for a red garment on the grey carpet. The gown graced with a fitted bodice and a pleated flared floor length hemline skirt. This look together is sweet and simplicity at it’s finest.

CAMILA

Camila Mendes- in Ralph & Russo with Swarovski Jewelry. Camila to me has always been glamorous in my eyes because of her character in Riverdale. This look is exactly what I  envision her in. She looks gorgeous with this off the shoulder gown . I love the light pink color which in pictures looks like a nude hue. The plunging neckline made this look but most of all the crystal and beaded embroidery detail on it were to die for. Not to mention the sheer cape that almost looked like it wasn’t there until she moved it around. *Sigh* Just one word, perfection.

SOPHIE

Sophie Turner- in Louis Vuitton. How gorgeous does she look?! She definitely made my jaw drop. The hot pink color makes her hair and eyes pop, I like that she kept the makeup simple. Now let’s talk about the dress. Doesn’t this remind you of Barbie with a hint of old Hollywood glamour? I love the sweetheart neckline shape of this strapless gown. I can see a bit of corset inspired on the bodice, I like how there is a belted waist and that high slit was perfect. She paired it well with silver heels.

MILLIE

Millie Bobby Brown- in Louis Vuitton I can’t believe that she is only 15 years old and she is making fashion statements like this that I absolutely approve as a mom and love. She wore a long fitted jacket that had a v-neckline adorn with a diamond necklace. The puffed up shoulders and the belted waist gave a dramatic look  but clean detail. I like how the blazer extended down like a high low dress and was perfectly paired with straight leg pants. Topped with white pointed heels making the entire outfit monochromatic.

AMANDA

Amanda Brugel- in Sebastian Gunawan Watch out Martha’s in the Handmaid’s Tale, Amanda shut it down in this glamour green embroidered gown. I want this dress in my closet. I love the draped sleeves, the plunging neckline, and the hair slicked back. But most of all is the back of the dress which is actually held like a halter top. You may be asking how? It’s deceiving to the eye from the front but if you zoom to the side of the neck you can see a string across and because I stalked her IG and found the picture of the back, which I wish she would’ve turned around and took professional pictures like this for the press because I wouldn’t have known.

Critics Choice Awards 2020

25th Critics Choice Awards

The 25th annual of the Critics Choice Awards was aired on January 12, 2020. I have finally watched it and here are my top 4 picks of The Best Dressed.

J.LO

J.Lo in Georges Hobeika – Grace and Elegance is what J.lo brings this look to life. The champagne hue looks so well on the blue carpet. The silhouette hugged all her curves to perfection. The back of the dress had a sheer mesh and the neckline and waist were studded in jewelry, which I adored! She paired the look with Harry Winston’s chandelier drop earrings and a matching Jimmy Choo clutch.

ZENDAYA

Zendaya in Tom Ford – She brought the warrior queen to this look. I personally love the monochromatic/futuristic feel. The high neck , sleeveless and asymmetrical top is a fashion forward in my little black book of fashion. She paired it well with the maxi skirt and braided hair. The hue of fuchsia was perfect on her skin tone, I love how she accentuated the color in her eyes and nails.

ANNABELLE WALLIS

Annabelle Wallis in Moschino – I love the plunging v-neck line in the sequins dress. The shoulders were draped showing a slit of skin. As Annabelle turned around you were able to see the exposure of her back which was beautiful.

ANNE HATHAWAY

Anne Hathaway in Atelier Versace – Hello, there mama of two. This was the first time she had walked a carpet after giving birth to her 2nd child. And she looks stunning! She gave me a retro feel. What I love about this shimmery gold gown is the billowing sleeves and the plunged v-neckline that made it sexy. Correct me if I am wrong, I barely see her doing something so risky as this or could that be my mom brain failing me again? Oh well. Overall, she had a glow with her natural makeup and loose hair, which was mesmerizing.

Taking it Back: Dad turn’s 30

For most men, turning could be terrifying. But for Rob, it was thrilling.

Truth be told, society has put a taboo on this age. You may ask, “Seriously? Why and how?” It is said that once you turn 30 it means that you are an actual adult. No more childish daydreams. Your life should be put TOGETHER! Get your shit right, don’t screw it up! You should be married, with kids, have a degree with a great job, have a house, and make that money.

WOAH, what the actual f***?! Right?

30 doesn’t have to be scary. It’s an eye opener but it’s doable. You can overcome this taboo as long as you know what to expect. Society shouldn’t have control in how you do things in your life, you can do whatever you please at whatever time you can to achieve your goals.

What I can say for Rob, is that he overcame lots of obstacles but always saw the goal at the end of the tunnel. He continues to thrive and be the best dad for Averie and Arya.

Cheers on looking back today on him turning 30.

October Recap: Halloween

This Halloween, Rob and I decided to dress up the girls as much as possible. After all, a little Hocus Pocus never hurt nobody.

photo_2017-11-26_19-04-58.jpg

The morning of Halloween, I asked Averie, “What would you like to dress up today?” and she replied, “A fairy, mommy.”

photo_2017-11-26_19-05-07.jpg

So I got some items from her closet and wa-la…. Fairy Averie.

photo_2017-11-26_19-05-15.jpgAnd for Arya, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, because that’s what I really wanted to go rather than going to work that day.

When I came back home, I wanted them to relax and unwind before trick o treating. Perfect moment for another chance to dress them up.

Averie was Princess Belle

IMG_1848.JPG

and Arya was Tinkerbell

IMG_1863.JPG

IMG_1865.JPG

Did you see what I did there?  Belle & Tinker-bell. The bells. I just noticed that. lol

We had them dancing to Halloween songs, just to get them in the mood.

IMG_1878.JPG

Let me tell you, to get them both ready within an hour is hard. Arya was fussy and Averie did not have a nap and was throwing tantrums.

After it felt like forever, we were ready. Introducing, The Peppas. Mommy pig, Daddy pig, Georg-ina, and Peppa.

photo_2017-11-01_08-24-00.jpg

Did you notice that this was a DIY costume.

Averie’s dress is an actual t-shirt from the boys section that I cut out. I bought her a long sleeve shirt and stockings. For Rob, I got him a Polo last minute in Walmart. And for me, I bought the dress on sale on Amazon and the long sleeve was bought in Walmart. For Arya, I had a teal long sleeve onsie but after seeing her in the tinkerbell costume I fell in love and left her in that costume instead.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-59.jpgphoto_2017-11-01_08-23-57.jpgWe went around our block but we noticed not many kids were around and the couple of doors we knocked on no one answered. We didnt want Averie to get disappointed so, we ordered pizza to go and headed out to our old neighborhood to trick o treat.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-32.jpg

This year was the best, Averie and I were singing along to, “This is Halloween, this is halloween, everyone SCREAM!” and we would scream and laugh.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-14 (2).jpg

Best moment of my night, was when Averie and I got scared together. As we were going to a house it looked like a statue was holding candy with a bucket, and all of the sudden it moved! “AHHHHH” we got scared as it began to wave, to our surprise it was only a lady dressed up. She got us real good.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-31 (2).jpg

This Halloween it was one to remember. Averie told us “Thank you Mommy & Daddy. Had so much fun!”

October Recap: Pumpkin Patch

IMG_1530.JPG

On October 29, 2017 we decided to go visit the pumpkin patch at Bedner’s Farm. It was an hour drive from where we live, as it is located in Boyton Beach. But we didn’t care about the ride, the pictures were worth the trip.

Pumpkin Patch 2014.jpgSince 2014, the Bedner’s pumpkin patch has become a tradition to us. When Averie was born (as seen above) it was the first pumpkin patch we went to and we decided to do the same with Arya for 2017.

IMG_1528.JPG(Daddy with Averie before entering the farm.)

IMG_1531.JPG

We attended the farm on closing day. Just a heads up, try to go earlier in the month and early in the day to avoid long lines. The Fall festival was opened from September 30 till October 29 . The pumpkin patch was opened every day except on Tuesday’s. It had a corn maze, hay rides, petting zoo, and a bounce house with rides. It was packed with families and kids dressed in costumes, even dogs.

IMG_1532.JPG

IMG_1535

Averie decided to dress like a witch for the pumpkin patch. I let her choose her costume as she had 2 other options, which you will see later.

When we arrived, I could hear myself saying “Averie, over here. Arya, ahhh-goooo” non stop. When I zoned out of our world, I locked eyes with one middle aged mom saying, “Kevin … Kevin look at me. Over here son.” I finally realized I wasn’t alone. I turned back to the girls and continued on.

IMG_1543.JPG

Averie was having a blast looking at all the different size of pumpkins in the patch.

IMG_1539.JPG

But when she heard the music, she stopped and began to dance. In this particular picture she was dancing to Taylor Swift, “Shake It Off.”

IMG_1559.JPG

Arya was having a blast too. She is such a happy baby.

The day was beautiful for us, the sun was finally out. The day before it had rain and we were worried that it would continue for us at the pumpkin patch. But luckily, not one dark cloud was around. It was breezy and perfect.

IMG_1548.JPG

For the life of me, I could not capture one picture of Averie looking towards the camera. But you know what, I love that. She was in her moment at that time.

IMG_1592.JPG

(Arya and Mommy)

IMG_1578.JPG

One of my favorite pictures with both girls.

IMG_1606.JPGIMG_1605.JPG

Daddy specifically wanted a picture like this with Arya. And boy, thank god he told me because it was a great shot.

IMG_1621.JPG

IMG_1626.JPG

IMG_1630.JPG

On the last day of the Fall festival, Bedner’s holds a costume contest. They had a live DJ giving away free items. But in this picture Averie just wanted to dance.

IMG_1635.JPG

World Famous food truck was there and their egg rolls were FIRE! Meaning, they were delicious. The line was pretty long but it moved fast. We shared BBQ pulled pork egg rolls. If you are ever around the area check them out, they are local in Boyton Beach.

IMG_1646.JPG

We decided to take a break near the market area. We sat in an open field while children were playing cornhole, running, and trying to escape their parents…

IMG_1648.JPG

IMG_1661.JPG

Of course my daughter joined in the fun.

IMG_1675.JPG

We viewed the corn maze from afar as the floor became to soggy to continue on.

IMG_1688.JPGIMG_1695.JPGIMG_1703.JPGIMG_1721.JPG

IMG_1741.JPG

This is us. This is our life captured in action. This will be our family picture. It captured us in the moment, the truth about this picture is so pure. Perfectly imperfect.

I’m not going to sugar coat our visit, we had taken so many pictures before. I want to share with you pretty pictures but I also want you to be aware that we have a normal life.

You see the picture above? Before taking it we had over 5 tantrums while we were there. It started to get hot, the floor was soggy and wet. Fire ants bit me before entering the farm. Everything you thought could go wrong did, but we made the best of it. That’s life, parenthood at it’s finest moment.

IMG_1771.JPG

IMG_1803.JPG

Arya loved to look around at people. She would look at every detail. She didn’t cry, which was one of my fears.

IMG_1805.JPG

But look at this face, i’m so in love with her. She was so happy which made me melt.

IMG_1808.JPG

Look at this picture and the one below it.

IMG_1812.JPG

They are truly alike. Both picture show that they are in sync with each other. It amazes us sometimes.

IMG_1830.JPGIMG_1818.JPG

This was a beautiful experience we shared as a family. Till next year, Bedner’s Farm.

Stay tuned for the last October Recap.

October Recap: Home Decor

October is one of my favorite months. Because it’s HALLOWEEN, duh!

I have been a busy witch with my little monsters, check out what all the Hocus Pocus I’ve been up to below.

20170927_210232.jpg

Bought our pumpkins for the girls. (Before)

20171029_173317.jpg

Jack. Averie’s favorite

20171027_193430.jpg

Mr.Funny/happy face as Averie’s calls it.

20171001_003959.jpg

Time to start decorating. Here we have Averie, who just woke up to help Daddy put up a Halloween door decoration.

20171001_162731.jpg

When it comes to holidays, yes I am one to consider Halloween a holiday. It’s a day you can dress as whoever you want to be, how cool is that? And it doesn’t matter what age you are, you can get away with it.

20171001_162829.jpg

This year I wanted to go all out. I was noticing that Averie had been paying close attention to details with her surroundings. But I was bit worry that Averie wouldn’t like it.

20171001_163905.jpg I first started the tradition with watching, “A Nightmare Before Christmas.” SHE WAS HOOKED. All I kept hearing from her was “This is Halloween, This is Halloween.” So when that occurred, I knew I was in the clear to go all out with the decor.

20171001_164218.jpg

After everything was in place, the best feeling was when the girls saw the finished production. Averie told me, “Oh wow mom, thank you. Thank you.” Arya would not stop laughing with Mr. Frankenstein that was by the door.

Stay tuned for more recaps of October.
