Don’t worry about what other kids say.

averie_inspirational note

Hey Mommas, future Mommas, and soon to be Mommas.

Last week, Rob was picking up Averie from daycare. While I was at work, he called me to let me know something happened. So I panicked a little but kept it cool and asked calmly, “What happened”? He begins to tell me that, when picking up Averie from school he noticed that she looked upset in the playground area. She walked across from him at the water fountain station and began to cry. He asked her what happened?

Backstory

Early that day we got a notification on Class Dojo (If you don’t know, its an app where parents and teachers can communicate) that Averie was the only child to pass the state exam for VPK with a perfect score.

So Rob asked her one more time, “What is wrong Averie?” She now begins to cry and then ugly cry. (You know when the boogers just come out- that’s when you know whatever was bothering really affected her) She begins to tell him while taking deep breaths, “The twins… called me… a DUMB IDIOT!” Begins to cry softly.

As they get into the car, they called me. I could hear Averie weeping quietly and I asked her version of the story. It’s exactly the same. But I wanted to reassure her that I heard it from her mouth not Daddy’s. Deep down inside I was crushed while listening to her tell me the story. How did this just happened? She must’ve asked the twins how they did in their exam. Because that’s who Averie is, she likes to help and loves to learn from others and they crushed it for her. This idea was just running in my head. How do I explain to my child that what others say should not be taken to the heart.

So I calmly tell her, “Averie, sometimes kids will be mean because they do not know how to express themselves. They can be frustrated and the words they choose come out rude. They may not be thinking at that moment. And yes, words can hurt. But remember that in the end of the day, the only people that matter are…. FAMILY. We don’t see you as a dumb idiot. Your are wonderful, beautiful and smart. You are beyond your years. Don’t let her bring you down. Hold your head up! I will see you soon after I get out from work.”

As I told her those words, I tried to hold my own tears and be strong for her. Because this was my first time that I wasn’t there to help her.

When I got home, the first thing I did was to go lay in bed with her. I asked her how she was feeling and she told me better. But in the back of my mind, I knew I had to write her a little note for school as I do everyday. But this time I wanted to tell her how special she truly is to me.

At 6 AM I wrote: Don’t worry about what other kids say. You are smart, beautiful, nice and FABU-LOUS! (Inside joke: she likes to mimic Lamb Lamb from Doc Mcstuffins) Hold your head high. YOU ARE A QUEEN! And ONLY YOU wears the crown! – Love Mom *Excuse my butchering of words, 6 AM and still half asleep*

You are also wondering, does she even read this note? And the answer to that is YES. The teacher sees her reading each note everyday. She has mentioned that is the first time she sees a little girl at her age reading and hugging the note from us. I think it’s a great inspirational note half way through her day.

So with that said, nobody tells you that parenting is easy. It’s a hard job and I wish I could protect her always. But I know she will learn and grow from this experience. With tougher skin.

Golden Globes 2019

Hello,

Fellow moministas, future mominitas, and fashion lovers. Hope you are all doing well. So, a week a go was the Golden Globes.

Backstory:
Let me tell you a little funny story, my television reminds me when important events like this will air. That Sunday morning, I was in Averie and Arya’s room as usual putting TV on for them. The TV then reminded me about the Golden Globes for 8pm, I hit the DVR to record. At 12:05 am on Sunday going into Monday (details are so important, right) I decided to watch it. The girls are in their room, should be sleeping. But now that I think about it… maybe they weren’t.

Any who, I go to check the DVR. Nervous fear set in me. “Did I really record it? I had to. No worries, remain positive. It’s January. New year, new me.” This is what I said on my mind as I turned on the TV. Haha, jokes on me because guess what wasn’t on the list? THE GOLDEN GLOBES! I thought I hit record, I must’ve pressed, no, thanks. I go and check my backup, the guide. Playstation Vue, let’s me watch things from the beginning after a show has ended. “I should be fine”, I said to myself. That’s when I hit to start and it’s unavailable. Great.

So after a week of looking everywhere, asking friends if they had recorded the show to only come empty handed. I can say, I have finally watched it. And at this moment you may ask, “Ady, why didn’t you just watch the carpet, or highlights from the night to find your fashion?” Well, my fashion enthusiasts, I like to watch it all. I was rooting for Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for, A Star is Born not to mention the entire cast that was nominated for Gianni Versace, American Crime Story and let’s not forget, Queen! I live for the fashion and awards.

October Recap: Halloween

This Halloween, Rob and I decided to dress up the girls as much as possible. After all, a little Hocus Pocus never hurt nobody.

photo_2017-11-26_19-04-58.jpg

The morning of Halloween, I asked Averie, “What would you like to dress up today?” and she replied, “A fairy, mommy.”

photo_2017-11-26_19-05-07.jpg

So I got some items from her closet and wa-la…. Fairy Averie.

photo_2017-11-26_19-05-15.jpgAnd for Arya, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, because that’s what I really wanted to go rather than going to work that day.

When I came back home, I wanted them to relax and unwind before trick o treating. Perfect moment for another chance to dress them up.

Averie was Princess Belle

and Arya was Tinkerbell

IMG_1865.JPG

Did you see what I did there?  Belle & Tinker-bell. The bells. I just noticed that. lol

We had them dancing to Halloween songs, just to get them in the mood.

IMG_1878.JPG

Let me tell you, to get them both ready within an hour is hard. Arya was fussy and Averie did not have a nap and was throwing tantrums.

After it felt like forever, we were ready. Introducing, The Peppas. Mommy pig, Daddy pig, Georg-ina, and Peppa.

photo_2017-11-01_08-24-00.jpg

Did you notice that this was a DIY costume.

Averie’s dress is an actual t-shirt from the boys section that I cut out. I bought her a long sleeve shirt and stockings. For Rob, I got him a Polo last minute in Walmart. And for me, I bought the dress on sale on Amazon and the long sleeve was bought in Walmart. For Arya, I had a teal long sleeve onsie but after seeing her in the tinkerbell costume I fell in love and left her in that costume instead.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-59.jpgphoto_2017-11-01_08-23-57.jpgWe went around our block but we noticed not many kids were around and the couple of doors we knocked on no one answered. We didnt want Averie to get disappointed so, we ordered pizza to go and headed out to our old neighborhood to trick o treat.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-32.jpg

This year was the best, Averie and I were singing along to, “This is Halloween, this is halloween, everyone SCREAM!” and we would scream and laugh.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-14 (2).jpg

Best moment of my night, was when Averie and I got scared together. As we were going to a house it looked like a statue was holding candy with a bucket, and all of the sudden it moved! “AHHHHH” we got scared as it began to wave, to our surprise it was only a lady dressed up. She got us real good.

photo_2017-11-01_08-23-31 (2).jpg

This Halloween it was one to remember. Averie told us “Thank you Mommy & Daddy. Had so much fun!”

Hurricane Irma

On September 3, Rob and I were sitting on the couch watching channel 7, WSVN. The weather forecast was showing that a hurricane was forming and it looked like it was coming for us.

Rob told me, “Watch it will miss us.”

I think he said that to calm my nerves. Because my mind was swirling through a million of thoughts at the same time. “Where would we go?” “I have a baby.” “She needs water and formula.” “I need toys and entertainment for Averie.” Then I snapped out of it when I remembered that I went this crazy for tropical storm Erika that was supposed to land and become a hurricane when it touched Florida. At that time, Averie was barely 2 months and I literally bought ALL the unnecessary items because it never came. So, can this happen again?

I then decided to go on Facebook.

This is something I do everyday just to check up on social media news. A friend of ours, Eric posted models showing different paths that the hurricane may take, the possibility of it being a category 4 or 5 and that made me interested yet worrisome. He stayed focus on models showing that it would come towards us. I messaged him and asked him for advice. All I got from that conversation was that we should pack before the media creates a chaos!

Great, just when we were going to start; the next day the media announced to start prepping. Chaos erupted. First thing I did was to put gas in my car, it was Monday and I was late for work and lines were already starting. I told myself, “I hope I don’t need to come back to the gas station.” I always have seen people on TV making lines and I had no patience for watching that or even want to be in it. To my luck, because of work, I had to get gas again before the Hurricane hit us. I woke up at 6am and waited 20 mins. Yup, tell me about.

Next thing I did was go to the grocery store. Have you ever seen World War Z , Contagion, or Zombieland (personal note, I got Twinkies in homage to Woody Harrelson. LOL) You know the part at the grocery store? People a bit chaotic, you looking for specific item. Yup, that scene was playing in real life. Except, no zombies or viruses. Only, empty shelves. No water. No batteries. No candles. Nothing left.

At one point I did feel hopeless, finding water for Arya. Yes, I buy baby water. I know you can just boil water and it will be OK. But I normally just buy it. I went to Babies R Us twice and both times they had no water. When I asked if they were getting a shipment they said “The shipment has been stopped due to the Hurricane”. A piece of me cringed. I wondered if other mother’s were in the same need as me. I thankfully, got a full months worth of formula, just incase. Rob’s mother ended up finding us water.

We packed our bags (I over pack for all possibilities) and got things prepped and bordered at our home and left to ride the storm at Rob’s parents house.

When the storm was approaching we had light. We had prepared stations of first aid kit and a location for candles, batteries, and flashlights. Averie played as much on her tablet while we watched the news.

Right after the girls finished taking a shower… LIGHTS OUT. And they remained off during the storm. All you can hear is the howling wind gust. In the back of the house was hurricane windows so those weren’t covered. There were times that when you looked outside it was pure white. It was breathtaking, the power of mothernature. What kicked in my anxiety was the constant emergency text blasting on all the cellphones of possible of tornados in the area. The heat was unbearable. The fact that I did pack one fan for Arya, wasn’t enough. Round the clock showers were constantly made for them so they wouldn’t get fussy. I know better now.

The girls weren’t aware how serious this was. I told Averie that there was a big storm coming with lots of rain and wind. And she was fine with it. I brought her toys and coloring books to keep her entertained. Arya is to little to know what’s going on but I made sure to let her know that mommy and daddy and Averie were with her.

This experience was truly an eye opener. I have experienced it as a child and didn’t think much of it. All I cared for when I was small was no school and I could sleep in. But now experiencing it as a mother, was an anxiety whirlwind. I believe seeing Hurricane Harvey hit Texas weeks before made us feel like we could be the ones in their shoes. That devastation could happen here and it made me prep a lot more. I even bought life vests just in case of flooding. Yes, extremely overboard but safety and peace of mind is at the top of my list when prepping.

It has taken a while for me to write, as I was getting our lives back to normal and back to a routine. I am grateful. Hurricane Irma’s aftermath only left us with broken down trees and power outages. This experience has taught me that it’s better to prepare on time and that family is most important.

Averie’s Haul: Claire’s

Recently, Averie has been fascinated on watching kid’s haul videos on YoutubeKids. I decided to give it a try and let her do a video on her own. Check out the items I got for her from Claire’s.

I didn’t think she would want to do it but she was ready. Her reactions are priceless, check it out.

Welcome Arya

photo_2017-08-22_18-28-31.jpgArya Rosalyn Cuevas born June 5, 2017, we are delighted to have expanded our family. She came into this world weighing 10 lb with the height of 21 in.

I am still trying to get adjusted to being a mom of two.

It’s amazing to see Averie being a big sister. I truly see the love they have for each other, even if they are still little. I have stumbled in their room and heard Averie sing her lullaby’s; if I ask her to help she is jumps up and says,”Ok mom, help.” Arya smiles and laughs with her big sister. It’s a feeling that is unexplainable until you are in it.

When they say family is everything, it sure is. Making memories are my number one priority now.

5 Minute Put Together Look

“Ok, you only got 5 minutes.” You say to yourself, before your toddler wakes up or before your baby starts crying for you for food. You look like you haven’t slept in a year and quite frankly you are starting to look like a ghost. Don’t just throw eyeliner on and say “W.e I don’t have time.” Give yourself some glamour into your life, you’ll feel better once you do. Come on girl, it’s time to put some makeup on and it’s all going to be under 5 minutes. I am going to show you how I get my face on and out the door. Are you ready?

Before.PNG

After.PNG

Below are the products I used. I didn’t try to go full out because after all I only have 5 minutes, so I picked the most essential items to me.

Product Review: Amazon’s Fire HD 8 Kids Edition

So a while back we bought an Insignia tablet for Averie. Let me tell you it’s the best thing we had ever purchase. Especially, when we are at a restaurant Averie could get entertained for an entire meal. I sometimes wonder what my parents had, to entertain me while I was a child (possibly paper and colors). Currently, we ran into issues, apps wouldn’t upload and we were unable to do updates. And if you are a parent of a toddler this is critical, so it was time for a change.

Rob did his research on kid friendly tablets. He showed me Amazon’s Fire HD 8 Kids Edition. It is designed with kids in mind. SCORE!

BeautyPlus_20170725223021_save.jpg

And we love the fact that it lasts for a total of 12-hour because of their mixed-use battery life. It is more than enough for Averie and it came with a pink kid proof case with the purchase.

BeautyPlus_20170725222955_save.jpg

But what we love most of all is that this tablet is educational (something we both wanted) and Amazon gives you access to 15,000 popular apps for a year. YES, 15,000. Averie has been learning sentences. Just the other day she asked me, “Mom, what’s your favorite color?” I was shocked because she is only 2 1/2. How did she learn that? Or how about she asked, “Mom, why is the sky black?” I asked her “Why” and she told me, “Because it’s night time.” My heart melted with joy as she told me those words. She is reading, she is learning and I am proud.

BeautyPlus_20170726004527_save.jpg

One thing that sold me on this product was the 2 year worry-free guarantee. Amazon promises that if your child breaks it or you return it. They will replace it for F-R-E-E, no questions asked. How awesome is that? We all know by now that toddlers love to throw things, spill juice and the list goes on.

I recommend this product. I know we are in July, but if your child’s birthday is coming up or you are even thinking about Christmas in July (like I am) this would be a great gift for both you and a child. It’s a great investment for learning and overall fun!

Product Review: Just for Me! Hair Milk Smoothing Edges Creme by Soft & Beautiful

I started to notice that every time I went out with Averie, her hair was always on her face. I told myself, “What product can she use that can make her look put-together.?” I talked to my mommy friends and I asked them what type of products they use on their boys. They told me “Gel, preferably with no alcohol.” My eyes got huge, how did I not think of that?! “HELLO… alcohol can ruin your hair, duh! Thank god I did not put moose on my daughters hair”, I said to myself. So I am at Walmart (you know my favorite place now) looking at the aisle of hair products and not finding anything without alcohol or for kids. Until, I found Just for Me!

So I picked it up and it said, Hair milk with shea butter, soymilk & honey (well that’s good). It also said smoothing edges crème, tames edges & adds shine ALCOHOL-FREE (this is real good). So I turned the bottle around and the directions read, apply to hair when smoothing back for pony tail styles. Perfect for taming baby hairs and flyaways. (SOLD, TAKE MY MONEY). It smelled good so why not give it a try? I could use it too.

I tried it on Averie, she loved it especially the smell. I put her hair in a pony tail and it worked. It looked like she had gel on and she didn’t. It lasted the whole day and her hair at the end of the night was soft. Another thing that it is important to me is that it did not give her any flakiness or dandruff. I would definitely recommend this product to any mom. I also use it when I am in a rush and I just want to tame my baby hairs in the front and it works! Check out the pictures below.

**Mom’s if you have a product that you are currently using let me know on the comments below, I would love to check it out.**
